🐟Ingredients
See recipe card at the bottom of the post for the full list of ingredients and exact amounts.
- Salmon filets. Use fresh or frozen and thawed salmon, with or without skin.
- Thai sweet chili sauce. This sweet, tangy, savory, spicy sauce is made with sugar, vinegar, garlic, and chili peppers. It's super yummy as a dipping sauce for shrimp or spring rolls. I get mine at the grocery store, but you can use homemade sweet chili sauce, too.
- Soy sauce. Salty soy sauce balances out the sweetness of the chili sauce.
- Lime juice. Brightens up the sauce and adds freshness.
- Ground ginger and garlic powder. You can also use fresh ginger and fresh minced garlic.
✨Variations or Substitutions
- Mix in a little fish sauce or oyster sauce, to taste, for savory umami flavor.
- Add a drop or two of sesame oil (start small!) to the sauce for rich, nutty flavor.
- Marinate the salmon in the sauce for 30-60 minutes for deeper flavor.
🥣How to Make Sweet Chili Salmon
Step 1: Combine sauce ingredients. Place ½ in a separate bowl and set aside. Brush the rest onto the salmon.
Step 2: Broil salmon 5-7 minutes until flaky and internal temperature reads 135. Brush with reserved sauce. Serve with sesame seeds and lime wedges.
👉Helpful Hints: If using skin-on salmon, place it skin side down on the pan. Cooking times will vary depending on the thickness of the salmon.
✅Top Tips
- Do not line the pan with parchment paper, it can burn under the broiler.
- Taste the sauce and adjust to your preferences.
- Cook salmon to internal temperature of 135, then set aside for carryover heat to cook it to 145.
🎁Storage
- Store leftover salmon in an airtight container in the refrigerator for 3-4 days.
- Enjoy leftovers cold, flaked into salads and wraps. Or reheat on the stovetop over medium heat in a little olive oil or butter, or in an air fryer at 350 degrees F just until warmed through. See more salmon reheating tips here.
❓FAQ
Sweet chili sauce gives salmon a sweet, tangy, and mildly spicy flavor, and caramelizes beautifully under the broiler.
Yes! Just be sure to thaw the salmon completely and pat it dry before glazing and broiling for best texture and flavor.
Great sides include cauliflower rice or crock pot brown rice, steamed green beans or carrots, stir-fried veggies, or a crisp cucumber salad.
Broil the salmon for 7–10 minutes, depending on thickness, and watch closely to avoid overcooking. Check the internal temperature with an instant read digital thermometer and cook to an internal temperature of 135. Allow carryover heat to take it to 145, the USDA-recommended temperature for fish.
Absolutely. Store-bought works great, but you can also make your own Thai chili sauce with a mix of rice vinegar, sugar, garlic, red pepper flakes, and cornstarch.
