🍋Ingredients
See recipe card at the bottom of the post for the full list of ingredients and exact amounts.
- Salmon filets. You can use frozen (thawed) or fresh salmon, skinless or skin-on. Or one large piece of salmon.
- Dijon. Dijon mustard adds a lovely tang to the mayo mixture. Add more for bolder flavor.
- Fresh lemon juice. A squeeze of lemon juice brightens everything up. If possible, use fresh lemons. Bottled lemon juice doesn't have the same fresh flavor.
- Garlic powder. I didn't want fresh garlic to burn under the broiler. So, garlic powder.
- Dried parsley. The lemony herbaceous flavor of parsley pairs well with salmon. If using fresh parsley, use 3 times the amount of dried, 1 ½ teaspoons.
🌿Variations or Substitutions
- Herbs. Use your favorite herbs like dried or fresh dill, tarragon, or thyme, or Italian seasoning.
- Seasonings. Play around with other seasonings like onion powder, cayenne pepper, or chili powder.
- Parmesan cheese. Try mixing a little Parmesan into the mayo mixture.
🥣How to Make Broiled Salmon with Mayonnaise
Step 1: Stir the mayonnaise mixture together. Place salmon on a foil-lined sheet pan for easy cleanup. Season salmon with salt and black pepper, then brush a thin layer of mayo sauce on top of the fish.
Step 2: Broil in preheated oven 5-7 minutes until flaky. Serve with lemon slices and top with green onions, if desired.
👉Helpful Hint: Pat the salmon dry with a paper towel to help the mayo mixture adhere.
✅Top Tips
- Do not use parchment paper, it will burn under the broiler.
- Exact cooking times will vary depending on the thickness of the salmon.
- Taste the mayonnaise mixture before brushing onto the salmon and adjust to your personal preferences.
- If using skin-on salmon, place it skin side down on the pan.
🎁Storage
- Store leftover salmon in an airtight container in the fridge for 3-4 days.
- Reheat on the stovetop over medium heat in a little olive oil or butter, or in an air fryer at 350 degrees F just until warmed through. See more salmon reheating tips here.
❓FAQs
Yes, just thaw it completely and pat it dry before adding the mayo mixture.
Regular, olive oil, or avocado oil-based mayo will all work great.
No flipping needed! Just broil on the top rack until the mayo is golden and bubbly.
Dill, parsley, thyme, chives, or a mix. Dried or fresh both work. Use what you have.
You can mix the mayo topping ahead, but for best results, apply and broil just before serving.
