🍋Ingredients
See recipe card at the bottom of the post for the full list of ingredients and exact amounts.
- Greek yogurt. Greek yogurt makes the dressing thick and rich. I use non-fat yogurt, but you can also use full-fat Greek yogurt for a creamier texture.
- Mayonnaise. A little mayonnaise adds creaminess and richness. You can skip it if you're not into mayo or add more for more classic ranch flavor.
- Milk. Use buttermilk or milk to thin the mixture into a creamy dressing. Buttermilk will make it taste closer to regular ranch dressing. If you're making dip, use less or leave it out.
- Dried herbs and seasonings. The combination of dried herbs and seasonings gives it that ranchy flavor.
- Fresh lemon juice. Lemon juice brightens up the flavors and just wakes everything up.
- White vinegar. The vinegar adds the tangy flavor we look for in ranch dressing. You can also use apple cider vinegar, white wine vinegar, or red wine vinegar for a different flavor.
- Honey. I keep trying to make this without sweetener but I find it always tastes better with just a little honey. You can also use maple syrup.
🌿Variations or Substitutions
- Add more mayo for even more creaminess and rich flavor.
- Use sour cream in place of mayonnaise -- or skip the mayo altogether.
- Try fresh dill, parsley or chives. To substitute fresh herbs for dried herbs, use 3 x the amount of fresh.
- Substitute the garlic powder with one fresh garlic clove, minced.
- Use about 2 tablespoons minced red onion in place of the onion powder.
🥣How to Make Greek Yogurt Dressing
Step 1: Stir all ingredients together in a medium bowl.
Step 2: Place dressing in a mason jar or airtight container. Chill in the refrigerator for at least a couple of hours or overnight to allow the flavors to meld. Give it a good shake and serve with your favorite salad greens or as a dip for celery and carrot sticks.
👉Helpful Hint: To make this as a dip, use less milk or leave it out.
✅Top Tips
- Add herbs and seasonings to taste. If you see one you don't like, leave it out or add a small amount at first and add to taste.
- Use mayo to taste -- the mayonnaise gives the dressing a creamier, richer texture and flavor.
- Sweetener is optional. Try it without it first, then add as needed. I always add it :).
- To substitute fresh herbs for dried herbs, use 3x the amount.
🎁Storage
Store creamy Greek yogurt salad dressing in the refrigerator for about one week.
❓FAQ
Kind of. It's not identical, but it does have the same creamy texture and herby flavor but with a slight tang from the yogurt. To make it even closer to classic ranch, add more mayo and use buttermilk instead of milk.
Greek yogurt is naturally thick. Thin it out with extra buttermilk, milk, or water, 1 tablespoon at a time, until you reach the desired consistency.
It’s great as a dip for veggies, a spread for wraps and sandwiches, or a sauce for grilled chicken and roasted potatoes.
