    • 📖 Recipe

This Buffalo Chicken Tater Tot Casserole recipe is the ultimate comfort food—ooey, gooey, and bubbling with tender chicken, creamy ranch, zesty buffalo sauce, and melted cheese, all topped with crispy tater tots.

It's like your favorite buffalo chicken dip turned into a hearty casserole! This fast and easy recipe is perfect for busy weeknights or entertaining a crowd on game day.

    🍗Ingredients

See recipe card at the bottom of the post for the full list of ingredients and exact amounts.

buffalo chicken tater tot casserole ingredients.
    • Diced or shredded chicken. Use leftover chicken or rotisserie chicken to save time. You'll need 2 chickens for 5 cups of chicken. Shred or cube it for even texture throughout the casserole.
    • Cream of chicken soup. Or try cream of bacon or cream of celery soup!
    • Ranch dressing. Blue cheese dressing would also be a great option.
    • Buffalo wing sauce. Buffalo sauce is less intense than straight-up hot sauce. I use Sweet Baby Ray's and Frank's RedHot -- both come in a mild version too. You can also make your own buffalo sauce.
    • Shredded cheese. Cheddar, mozzarella, or a blend of cheeses will work well. I use sharp cheddar cheese.
    • Toppings, optional. Get the full hot wing experience and serve with more sauce, ranch, green onions, celery, and blue cheese.

🥣How to Make Buffalo Chicken Tater Tot Casserole

Step 1: In a large bowl, combine the chicken, soup, ranch dressing, sour cream, buffalo sauce, green onions, and 2 cups shredded cheese. Evenly spread the mixture into a greased casserole dish.

frozen tater tots arranged over buffalo chicken mixture.

Step 2. Arrange frozen tater tots in a single layer on top of the buffalo chicken mixture. Bake in a preheated oven at 425 degrees for 35 minutes or until the tater tots are crispy and the sauce is bubbly.

Step 3: Sprinkle the remaining cheese over the tater tots. Bake 5-10 more minutes or until the cheese is melted.

Step 4: If desired, serve with more buffalo sauce, ranch dressing, green onions, diced celery or celery sticks, and crumbled blue cheese.

    ✅Top Tips

    • If at all possible, shred your own cheese. It melts much creamier than pre-shredded cheese.
    • For extra-crispy tots, bake them for about 10 minutes on their own before adding them to the casserole.
    • Adjust the heat to your preference by using more or less buffalo sauce or mild buffalo sauce.

    🎁Storage

Store leftover buffalo chicken casserole covered in plastic wrap or in an airtight container in the refrigerator for 3-4 days.

    🔥Reheating

    • Reheat a partial casserole in a baking dish covered in foil in a 350-degree oven for 30 minutes or until heated through. Remove foil and bake 5-10 more minutes to crisp up the tater tots.
    • Reheat individual servings in the microwave in 30-second bursts until warmed through. The tater tots won't be as crispy when reheated in the microwave.

    🗓️Make Ahead

Assemble the casserole without the tater tots, cover, and refrigerate overnight. When ready to bake, add the tater tots. You may need to add additional baking time.
