Is it even Christmas if there isn't any fudge? For me, it's a hard no. Homemade fudge was always one of my favorite treats on my grandma's goodie trays. And one of my favorite recipes, my peanut butter fudge, was inspired by a recipe I found in my husband's grandmother's recipe box.

Many of these fudge recipes are super easy to make in the microwave, with no candy thermometer needed, so they're perfect for busy holiday baking. And because more flavors are more fun, I've included favorites from some of my blogging friends too, so you'll find everything from classic chocolate and peanut butter to peppermint, red velvet, and hot cocoa fudge.

Christmas Fudge Recipes

✅Tips for Perfect Christmas Fudge

  • Use good quality chocolate. I like Ghirardelli, since it melts smoothly and gives the best flavor and texture.
  • Microwave in short bursts. Heat for about a minute, stir gently, then heat in 15 to 30-second bursts until the chips are just melted. Overheating can make fudge seize.
  • Stir gently and only as needed. Overstirring can make fudge grainy or oily.
  • No microwave? Melt the fudge mixture gently in a saucepan over medium heat.
  • Keep the parchment in place. Smear a little butter on the pan first, or use binder clips.

🥜Make It Your Own

Use these easy Christmas fudge recipes as a starting point, then customize them for you or your lucky gift recipients.

  • Extracts and spices. Add a splash of orange, maple, rum, almond, or peppermint extract, or a pinch of cinnamon, pumpkin spice, ground ginger, or cayenne.
  • Mix-ins. Nuts, crushed cookies, dried fruit, marshmallows, sprinkles (use jimmies, they bleed less than nonpareils), crushed candy, pretzel pieces, or coconut. Toast the nuts or coconut to intensify the flavor. It's totally worth the extra 5 minutes.
  • Toppings. Gently press nuts, mini peanut butter cups, toffee bits, chopped candy bars, crushed Andes mints, or sprinkles into the fudge before it sets.

🔪How to Cut Fudge Into Neat Squares

  • Chill at least 2 hours until firm.
  • Let it sit 15 to 20 minutes at room temperature before slicing. If it's too cold, it can splinter.
  • Use a warm, sharp knife. Cut 1 to 1½-inch strips, then squares, wiping the blade between cuts.
  • Trim the edges for perfect squares. Then you know what to do with them ;).

🎁How to Store & Freeze Fudge

These are general fudge storage tips. Refer to the recipes above for the exact storage instructions for each type of fudge.

  • Room temperature. Store most fudge in an airtight container for 1 to 2 weeks.
  • Refrigerator. For longer storage, keep it in the fridge for 2 to 3 weeks.
  • Freezing. Wrap the fudge tightly in wax paper, then foil, and place it in a freezer bag. Freeze for 2 to 3 months and thaw in the fridge.

❓FAQs

Help! My fudge seized. Can I fix it?

Probably! Seized fudge turns stiff, dry, and grainy, usually from overheating, overstirring, or low-quality chocolate. As long as the chocolate isn't burned, stir in warm water or cream one teaspoon at a time until it comes back together, rewarming it briefly if needed.

Why does my fudge look oily?

That happens when the chocolate gets overheated. I've been there! Gently rewarm the fudge and stir in warm water, one teaspoon at a time, until it's smooth and glossy again.

Why did my fudge splinter when I cut it?

It was probably too cold. Let it sit at room temperature for 15 to 20 minutes before cutting, and use a warm knife.

Can I make microwave fudge on the stovetop?

Yes. Melt the ingredients gently in a saucepan over medium heat, stirring just until smooth.

Can I freeze fudge?

Yes! Most fudge recipes freeze really well for 2 to 3 months.
