- Hummus. Use your favorite store-bought or homemade hummus. Plain, garlic, spicy, or red pepper hummus would all be delicious choices.
- Lemon juice. Fresh lemon juice balances the earthy flavors of chickpea hummus.
- Dijon mustard. Dijon adds tang and rich flavor.
- Apple cider vinegar. A splash of vinegar brightens up any homemade salad dressing.
- Parsley. Parsley adds a lemony, herbaceous flavor. Try other herbs like basil, mint, or oregano.
🌿Variations or Substitutions
- Mustard. Instead of Dijon, try stone ground mustard or one of these substitutes for Dijon mustard.
- Herbs. Substitute 1 tablespoon of fresh herbs for every teaspoon of dried.
- Vinegar. For milder flavor, use red wine vinegar, white wine vinegar, or rice wine vinegar.
- Seasonings and spices. Add 1 clove of fresh minced garlic or ¼ teaspoon garlic powder or a little cumin or cayenne pepper, or a dash of hot sauce.
- Sweeteners. For a touch of sweetness, add a little honey or pure maple syrup.
🥣How to Make Hummus Salad Dressing
Step 1: Stir all salad dressing ingredients, except water, in a small bowl. Add a little water until it reaches your desired consistency.
Step 2: Store in a mason jar or an airtight container for at least an hour to allow the flavors to develop.
👉Helpful Hint: After stirring it together, taste it and adjust the seasonings to your preferences. For brighter flavor, try more lemon, vinegar, or mustard. For sweetness, add a little honey or maple syrup. If the flavor is flat overall, try a little salt.
🎁Storage
Store in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 5 days. Stir before using.
